Vikram Singh Mehta Appointed IndiGo Chairman, Succeeds Venkataramani Sumantran

InterGlobe Aviation, the parent company of IndiGo, has appointed Vikram Singh Mehta as the new Chairman of its Board. He will replace Venkataramani Sumantran, who served in the role for three years.

Mehta is currently Chairman and Distinguished Fellow at the Centre for Social and Economic Progress. He started his career in 1978 as an IAS official before switching to the energy industry. He has served on the Boards of several Indian and global companies, including Larsen & Toubro, Mahindra & Mahindra, Colgate Palmolive India, and Jubilant FoodWorks. He was the Executive Chairman of Brookings India and led Shell Group’s operations in India for nearly two decades. Mehta also holds Board roles with the Fletcher School, Thomson Reuters Founders Share Company, and Macro Advisory Partners.

Dr Sumantran is also Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Celeris Technologies, a strategic advisory firm focused on automotive, mobility, and digital transformation. He has held leadership roles at Hinduja Automotive (UK), Ashok Leyland, and Tata Motors, where he led the Passenger Car Business. He spent 16 years at General Motors in the US and Europe in R&D and advanced engineering roles. He has served on advisory bodies to the Prime Minister and Cabinet of India and held academic positions at IIT Madras and MIT MISI. Dr Sumantran is a graduate of IIT Madras with a master’s degree in technology management and a PhD in aerospace engineering. He is also a licensed private pilot.
