US antitrust regulators are considering a huge antitrust action against Amazon
According to reports, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) intends to sue Amazon.com’s core marketplace site for rewarding sellers on the internet that utilise its logistical services while penalising those that find other solutions.
The proposed complaint adds to the agency’s recent actions against Amazon. Bloomberg reported, citing records and people who were familiar with the case, that FTC Chairman Lina Khan’s staff has been working on the petition for some time and finalising important elements, such as where to bring the claim.
According to the article, the agency’s antitrust lawsuit against the marketplace operated by Amazon has been in process for an extended period of time. Bloomberg reported, citing papers, that Amazon received the FTC notice for an initial probe in June 2019.
According to an earlier report, the FTC had said that Amazon purposefully made cancelling Prime subscriptions difficult, attempting to prevent customers from terminating their payments. At the same time, the FTC is already looking into Amazon’s $1.7 billion acquisition of “Roomba” vacuum producer iRobot. The investigation wants to learn how Amazon’s warehousing and shipping service affected third-party merchants’ placement of products on the Internet market.
