UnitedHealth Appoints Former FDA Chief Scott Gottlieb To Its Board

UnitedHealth Group has appointed former U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) commissioner Scott Gottlieb to its Board with immediate effect.

Gottlieb led the FDA from 2017 to 2019 and later joined Pfizer’s Board. Before heading the FDA, he worked as a healthcare investor and consultant and served on several corporate Boards. He previously served as a Senior Advisor at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, where he worked on the Medicare drug benefit and policies for new medical technologies. In 2013, he was appointed to the Federal Health Information Technology Policy Committee. He has been a Resident Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and a Clinical Assistant Professor at NYU School of Medicine, where he also practised as a hospitalist. Gottlieb completed his internal medicine residency at Mount Sinai and holds degrees from Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Wesleyan University.
