United Nations Sets Up Global Platforms To Govern Artificial Intelligence
The UN has created the Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Global Dialogue on AI Governance to guide international cooperation on AI.
The Global Dialogue will act as an inclusive platform for governments and stakeholders to discuss governance issues and align with wider digital policy frameworks. The Scientific Panel will connect AI research with policymaking through independent, science-based reports to support risk and opportunity assessments. Its first report will be presented in July next year at the inaugural Global Dialogue in Geneva. Businesses, however, are being urged not to wait for global regulations. Ciarán Bollard, CEO of The Corporate Governance Institute, said companies must establish internal safeguards now to manage risks and prepare for compliance. Nominations for the Scientific Panel will open in the coming months.
