U.S. SEC Plans Overhaul Of Cryptocurrency Regulations, Reduces Burden on Public Firms

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has unveiled its upcoming rulemaking agenda, aiming to revise cryptocurrency regulations and ease certain Wall Street compliance requirements.

The agency plans to clarify how broker-dealer rules apply to crypto and may amend rules to allow trading of digital assets on national securities exchanges and alternative trading systems. The agenda also includes a rationalisation of disclosure requirements and measures to reduce compliance burdens for public companies regarding shareholder proposals. SEC Chair Paul Atkins said the agenda reflects the commission’s focus on supporting innovation, capital formation, market efficiency, and investor protection.
