TVS Motors’ Independent Director R. Gopalan Resigned

R. Gopalan, Independent Director of TVS Motors Company Limited, has tendered his resignation with effect from March 2, 2024, due to other commitments and personal reasons. Consequently, he shall also cease to be the Chairman, and a member of the Audit Committee, Corporate Social Responsibility Committee and Administrative Committee of the company.

Gopalan served as a member of the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) under the Prime Minister’s authority. Prior to retirement, Gopalan held the post of Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. He was overseeing matters of Capital Markets, Infrastructure Finance, G-20, the World Bank (WB), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), budget preparation, public-private partnerships (PPP), the Directorate of Currency, and other pertinent economic matters. Before this role, he served as the secretary in the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance. Additionally, he was a Director on the Boards of MMTC, STC, and PEC Ltd. He took on various significant roles, including Joint Secretary at the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council (NMCC), Joint Secretary in the Commerce Department overseeing WTO and FTA negotiations, Joint Secretary in charge of the export promotion division in the Commerce Ministry, and CMD of the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO). He currently sits on the boards of several Indian companies. He holds a Master’s Degree in Economics from Boston University and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Management from the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
