Torrent Pharma reappoints Samir Mehta as Executive Chairman, inducts Jinal Mehta to the Board
The Board of Torrent Pharmaceuticals Limited has approved the appointment of Jinal Mehta as Non-Executive Non-Independent Director with effect from May 24, 2024. Jinal Mehta is a relative of Samir Mehta, Executive Chairman, and Aman Mehta, Whole-Time Director.
The Board of Directors acceded to the desire of Jinesh Shah to step down as the Director of the company effective July 23, 2024.
The Board also approved the reappointment of Samir Mehta as Executive Chairman of the company for five years, with effect from April 1, 2025.
All the changes are subject to the approval of the shareholders.
Samir Mehta, 60, is the Chairman of Torrent Group, valued at 41,000 crores. Under his leadership, Torrent Pharma expanded into new therapies and regions, invested in product development, built advanced manufacturing facilities, and made significant acquisitions, establishing itself as a respected pharma major in India. He also led Torrent’s growth in the power sector, improving performance and efficiency, making Torrent Power one of the best-run utilities in India. Additionally, he mentored the group’s entry into the city gas distribution sector, establishing Torrent as a leading CGD entity with an investment plan of approximately 10,000 crores across 17 areas in India.
Jinal Mehta, 41, is a Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Sydney, Australia. He is the Managing director of Torrent Power and also oversees Torrent Gas. He has more than 17 years of experience across various facets of the energy sector – generation, transmission, and distribution of power, and trading and distribution of gas. He started his career with Torrent Power’s Generation business. Thereafter, he took charge of the distribution business of Torrent Power.
