The Trump Administration Drafts AI Contract Rules Amid Dispute With Anthropic

The administration of Donald Trump has prepared rules for civilian artificial intelligence contracts, according to a report by the Financial Times. The draft requires companies to allow the government to use their AI systems for any lawful purpose.

The move comes after the United States Department of Defense classified Anthropic as a supply chain risk. The decision bars government contractors from using the company’s technology in work linked to the military. The draft prepared by the General Services Administration states that companies seeking government contracts must provide the United States with a license to use their systems for legal purposes. Josh Gruenbaum of the Federal Acquisition Service said the agency ended Anthropic’s OneGov agreement, removing its access to government procurement contracts.

The report said the rules would also require AI companies to disclose whether their models comply with regulatory frameworks outside the United States.
