Tata Steel to redesignate Akshay Khullar and Peeyush Gupta
Akshay Khullar is being appointed as the Vice President, Engineering & Projects (Designate) of Tata Steel Limited, with effect from December 1, 2023. He will take charge as the VP, Engineering & Projects, on February 1, 2024. The company has also announced that Peeyush Gupta, currently serving as the Vice President of Group Strategic Procurement and Supply Chain, will lead the Total Quality Management (TQM) function in addition to his current responsibilities. Accordingly, Gupta will be re-designated as the Vice President, TQM, Group Strategic Procurement and Supply Chain, with effect from February 1, 2024. Avneesh Gupta, the current Vice President of TQM and Engineering & Projects at Tata Steel Limited, will retire on February 1, 2024, after serving for 37 years.
Akshay Khullar joined Tata Steel in 1992 and, during his early years, gained experience in diverse roles within steelmaking operations. After serving in various capacities in steelmaking, he took on the role of Head Technologist (continuous casting) in 2001. Subsequently, he progressed to Head of Operations and was later promoted to Chief of Thin Slab Casting & Rolling (TSCR). Following this, he assumed the position of Chief Slab Caster and later served as Chief of Manufacturing Long Products. His journey led him to the Engineering and Projects Division, where he currently serves as the General Manager of Projects and Construction at Tata Steel Kalinganagar.
Peeyush Gupta has over 30 years of experience at Tata Steel. Gupta chairs the boards of subsidiaries and associate companies and is a member of the boards for Tata Steel Downstream Products Limited, Tata NYK Shipping Pte Limited (Singapore), and Tata Steel Global Procurement Singapore. He also chairs the Business Council of Agrico and the Bearings Division of Tata Steel. In 2021–22, he served as the Chairman of the West Bengal State Council for the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Eastern Region. He currently serves as the Vice President of Group Strategic Procurement and Supply Chain at Tata Steel. In this role, he manages the sourcing of strategic raw materials, industrial gases, and IT for Tata Steel’s operations in India, the Netherlands, and the UK. He also oversees revenue procurement for Tata Steel India and the UK, covering bulk commodities, maintenance, repair and operations (MRO), consumables, services, and transportation.
