Tata Sons Defers Discussion On Natarajan Chandrasekaran’s Reappointment

At a board meeting on Tuesday, Executive Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran requested that the discussion on his third term be postponed, according to a report in the Economic Times. The issue arose after Noel Tata, Chairman of Tata Trusts, raised concerns about losses in new group ventures.

Board members supported the reappointment, stating that losses were linked to greenfield investments and their timelines. The proposal requires a special resolution and an exception to the company’s retirement policy for roles beyond 65. Noel Tata is reported to have outlined conditions, including no listing of Tata Sons, no debt, limits on capital expenditure, and control of losses from acquisitions such as Air India and BigBasket. Chandrasekaran’s term runs until February 2027.
