Tamil Nadu Gaming Regulator To Issue Notices To Meta, Google For Offshore Betting Promotions

The Tamil Nadu Online Gaming Authority (TNOGA) is preparing to send formal notices to social media platforms, including Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook, for allowing advertisements promoting illegal gambling. Following the ban on real-money gaming, offshore platforms such as JackBit, 1xBet, Parimatch, Odds96, and 4RaBet increased digital marketing targeting Indian users.

The regulator plans to hold intermediaries accountable under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Online Gaming and Regulation of Online Games Act. TNOGA will also focus on influencers and content creators promoting such platforms and is conducting awareness campaigns across the state. The authority flagged surrogate advertising through sports sponsorships and AI-generated celebrity endorsements. Advertising incentives offered by offshore operators have surged, with bonus schemes reaching up to 700%. TNOGA, in coordination with the Advertising Standards Council of India, aims to curb illegal online gambling promotions on digital platforms.
