Sunil Kakkar Becomes First Indian Whole Time Director Of Maruti Suzuki

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has appointed Sunil Kakkar as a Whole-Time Director, effective April 1, 2025, making him the first homegrown Indian employee to join the company’s Board.

Kakkar has led MSIL’s corporate planning division and contributed to localising supply chains and forming joint ventures with companies from Japan, Italy, and France. With this appointment, MSIL’s Board will now have equal representation of six Indians and six Japanese members. Kakkar holds an MBA gold medal from the Asian Institute of Technology and is a graduate of IIT Kanpur. He is also a member of the Boards of MSIL’s affiliated enterprises and trade associations.

Prior to this, Indian top executives such as RC Bhargava had joined the company as government nominee Directors.
