Sundaram Nair Appointed as Chairman of Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals
Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals’ Board has approved the appointment of Sundaram Damodaran Nair, Non-Executive Independent Director, as Chairman of the Board with effect from October 21, 2023. He replaced Hemant Nerurkar, who will turn 75 on October 20, 2023. The board has also approved the appointment of Anil Chaudhry and Sanjiv Kakkar as an Additional Director with effect from October 17, 2023.
Sundaram Damodaran Nair has experience in corporate finance, business performance, monitoring operations, governance, mergers and acquisitions, talent and people management, and strategy. He has been associated with Crompton as a Non-Executive and Independent Director since 2015 and is currently the Vice Chairman and MD of TVS Capital Funds Ltd. He has more than 34 years of experience with Hindustan Unilever, is a two-time winner of the prestigious “CFO of the Year for FMCG Sector” award by CNBC TV18, and was also awarded as the ‘Best Independent Director in 2019’ by the Asian Centre for Corporate Governance and Sustainability. He also served as an Independent Director on the Board of the State Bank of India, SBI Capital Markets, and has been a member of the board of governors of the Institute of Financial Management and Research, Chennai. He served Hindustan Unilever Limited in various capacities; he was seconded to Unilever, London, as Commercial Officer for the Africa and Middle East Group. He was the Commercial Manager of the TOMCO integration team and CFO of Brooke Bond Lipton and has served at Unilever London as Sr. Vice President (Finance, IT, and Strategy) for South Asia and the Middle East. In April 1999, he returned to HUL as Finance and IT Director and was elevated to Vice Chairman of HUL in April 2008. He currently serves as an independent director on the boards of SBI General Insurance, GSK Pharma India, and Trent HyperMarket (JV with TESCO). He is a Postgraduate in Management Studies, Chennai, a Fellow of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants, and has done Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Programme.
