
SPNI CEO & MD Gaurav Banerjee Takes Over As BARC Chairman, Replacing Shashi Sinha
Gaurav Banerjee, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director (CEO & MD) of Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI), has been officially appointed Chairman of the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India.
Banerjee succeeds Shashi Sinha, who had held the role since March 2022.
Banerjee has over two decades in the media and entertainment industry. Previously, as Head of Content at Disney+ Hotstar, he developed a diverse slate of originals catering to Hindi-speaking and regional audiences, contributing to rapid subscriber growth. At Star India, he led the Hindi entertainment portfolio, including Star Plus and Star Gold, and launched successful regional channels like Star Jalsha and Star Pravah. Beginning his career in news, Banerjee holds a master’s in Filmmaking and TV Production from Jamia Millia Islamia and a history degree from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi.
