Sony Named Disney’s Gaurav Banerjee as its new India CEO, according to reports
Sony has appointed Gaurav Banerjee, a former Walt Disney Executive, as its new Chief Executive Officer for India, according to sources. Banerjee, who previously served as the head of content for Disney’s streaming service Hotstar and managed the company’s TV channels in Hindi-speaking regions, has resigned from his position at Disney’s India division. He is slated to join Sony in approximately two months, as reported by media sources. This move follows Sony’s recent announcement of its search for a successor to its current India Chief Executive, N.P. Singh, who has opted to step down. Banerjee’s transition from Disney occurs amidst the U.S. company’s efforts to secure regulatory approval in India for merging its media assets with those of Reliance, led by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, with the aim of forming India’s largest entertainment company.
