SoftBank’s Sumer Juneja is joining OYO’s Board of Directors

Sumer Juneja, Managing Partner and Head of EMEA & India at SoftBank Vision Fund, is set to be appointed as Non-executive Director of Oravel Stays Limited, IPO-bound unicorn OYO’s parent firm.

According to information accessed by PTI, the said appointment is subject to the approval of shareholders of the company at an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM).

As a nominee director of Softbank, Sumer will join the board of Oravel Stays. Juneja’s appointment follows the departure of Munish Varma, SoftBank’s previous nominee, who resigned in September 2021. Since then, SoftBank has not designated a replacement nominee on OYO’s board.

OYO declined to comment on the matter when contacted.

In 2018, Sumer Juneja joined SoftBank to establish its local investing presence in India and later expanded his role to oversee investment activities in EMEA. Prior to joining SoftBank, he served as a Partner at Norwest Venture Partners. He was also a founding member of Goldman Sachs’ Asian Special Situations Group in India. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in politics and economics from the London School of Economics.
