Senate Confirms Michelle W. Bowman As Federal Reserve Vice Chair For Supervision

The U.S. Senate confirmed Michelle W. Bowman as the Federal Reserve’s top bank regulator in a 48-46 vote split along party lines. Once sworn in, Bowman will serve as Vice Chair for supervision, overseeing regulatory policy and banking supervision.

Bowman, a former community banker, is supported by the banking industry, though her confirmation vote was narrower than expected. She became a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in November 2018, to fill an unexpired term ending January 31, 2020. She was reappointed and sworn in on January 30, 2020, for a term ending January 31, 2034. Before joining the Board, she was the State Bank Commissioner of Kansas from 2017 to 2018 and Vice President of Farmers & Drovers Bank from 2010 to 2017. Her earlier roles include positions with Senator Bob Dole, the U.S. House of Representatives, FEMA, and the Department of Homeland Security. She later led a consultancy in London. Bowman holds a BS from the University of Kansas and a JD from Washburn University and is a member of the New York Bar.
