SEC Enforcement Director Gurbir S. Grewal To Step Down
Gurbir S. Grewal, the Enforcement Director of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), is stepping down following three years of intensive regulatory action against Wall Street and cryptocurrency firms. He will leave on October 11, with Deputy Director Sanjay Wadhwa taking over as acting director.
Prior to joining the Commission, Gurbir S. Grewal served as the Attorney General of New Jersey. He was also the Bergen County Prosecutor, the top law enforcement official in New Jersey’s most populous county. Earlier in his career, Gurbir worked as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey, where he was Chief of the Economic Crimes Unit, and for the Eastern District of New York, where he was assigned to the Business and Securities Fraud Unit. He was also a lawyer in private practice. Gurbir has a J.D. from the College of William & Mary, Marshall-Wythe School of Law, and a B.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University School.
