SEC Commissioner Caroline Crenshaw Steps Down

US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Commissioner Caroline Crenshaw is leaving the agency, creating a vacancy on the five-member commission at a time of debate over cryptocurrency regulation.

Crenshaw joined the SEC in August 2020 and consistently supported the application of existing securities laws to digital asset markets. Before becoming a commissioner, she served as a staff attorney at the SEC in the Division of Examinations and the Division of Investment Management. She also worked as counsel to Commissioners Kara Stein and Robert Jackson, focusing on investor protection and oversight of financial institutions. Crenshaw has served as a major in the US Army Reserve, Judge Advocate General’s Corps. Prior to government service, she practiced law at Sutherland, Asbill and Brennan LLP in Washington, DC. She graduated from Harvard College and earned her law degree from the University of Minnesota.
