SEBI’s Ananth Narayan Steps Down After Term Ends

Ananth Narayan G. has stepped down from his role at the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) after completing his term, effective October 9, 2025.

Narayan led SEBI’s market regulation division and oversaw foreign investor-related departments. He was heading the ongoing probe into alleged market manipulation by U.S.-based trading firm Jane Street, which will now be handed over to his successor. With over 25 years of experience in banking and financial markets, he has held several senior roles. Before this, he was an Associate Professor at the S.P. Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai. Narayan earned a postgraduate diploma in management from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Lucknow, where he received the Director’s Gold Medal for securing the second rank in his batch. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay.
