SEBI Partnered With Google To Introduce Verified Labels For Trading Apps On Play Store

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has partnered with Google to introduce verified labels for stock trading apps on the Play Store. The move is aimed at addressing the rise in fraudulent investment platforms.

Under the initiative, apps offered by SEBI-registered entities will carry a “verified” tag on the marketplace. The regulator plans to extend this feature to other regulated intermediaries in the future. SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey indicated that the effort is aimed at curbing fraudulent actors in the investment ecosystem. Around 600 financial service apps in India have already received the verified status. The regulator has also removed over 1.3 lakh misleading pages and blocked dozens of fake trading apps. It has asked major technology platforms to coordinate with regulators to strengthen investor protection.

The development follows multiple cases of investment fraud across India, where fake apps have led to financial losses for users.
