Sashidhar Jagdishan Reappointed Managing Director & CEO of HDFC Bank
The RBI has approved the re-appointment of Sashidhar Jagdishan on September 18, 2023, as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the HDFC Bank Limited for a period of 3 years with effect from October 27, 2023, to October 26, 2026.
Jagdishan took over from Aditya Puri in October 20202. A Chartered Accountant by training he has an overall experience of 31 years out of which he has spent 24 years at HDFC Bank. He joined the Bank in 1996 as a Manager in the Finance function. He became the Business Head of finance in 1999 and was appointed as CFO in 2008. He played a critical role in supporting the growth trajectory of the Bank and led the finance function with a pivotal role in aligning the organisation in achieving the strategic objectives over the years. Prior to his appointment as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Bank, he was the Group Head of the Bank in addition to overseeing the functions of Finance, Human Resources, Legal and secretarial, Administration, Infrastructure, Corporate Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility. Before joining HDFC Bank, he spent three years working at Deutsche Bank AG in Mumbai.
His achievements include the Best CFO in the Banking Sector award at the CNBC TV18 CFO Awards for 2013-14. He received the Best CFO award from a special jury at The Financial Express CFO Awards in 2019. In October 2020, he earned a spot in the prestigious High and Mighty List published by India Today, marking his debut.
In 2019, he was designated as the “Strategic Change Agent of the Bank” and was entrusted with additional responsibilities, which encompassed Legal and secretarial, Human Resources, Corporate Communication, Infrastructure and administration, and CSR.
A Physics graduate and a Chartered Accountant Sashidhar Jagdishan also holds a Master’s degree in Economics of Money, Banking & Finance from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom and he has completed his graduation in Science with specialisation in Physics.
