Sandeep Biswas CEO of Newcrest Mining has Retired

Newcrest Mining Limited announced that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Sandeep Biswas, will retire after eight years of service. Chief Financial Officer Sherry Duhe, who joined Newcrest in February, will serve as interim CEO while the company conducts a global search for a permanent replacement. This search, managed by executive head-hunter Russell Reynolds, has been ongoing for several months and involved discussions with Biswas.

Biswas will step down from his role as Managing Director immediately but will remain an advisor until March 18. During his tenure, Biswas was recognised for improving Newcrest’s balance sheet and focusing on free cash flow. He also expanded Newcrest’s presence in Canada through the Red Chris acquisition, increasing the company’s copper exposure, crucial for green energy initiatives. Additionally, Newcrest’s exploration team discovered a significant gold deposit in Western Australia’s Paterson province.

In other changes, Group Treasurer Dan O’Connell will serve as interim CFO, and Chief Operating Officer (Americas) Craig Jones will oversee all Newcrest operations on an interim basis.
