Poonam Gupta Appointed As RBI Deputy Governor For Three-Year Term

The central government has appointed Poonam Gupta as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) with effect from April 2, 2025.

Currently Director General at the National Council of Applied Economic Research, Gupta succeeds Michael D. Patra, whose term ended in January 2025.

Poonam Gupta is a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister and Convener of the Advisory Council to the 16th Finance Commission. She has previously worked at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank and taught at institutions including the Delhi School of Economics. Gupta holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Maryland.
