
Nirupama Rao Concludes Her Tenure As Independent Director Of ITC
Nirupama Rao has ceased to be an Independent Director of ITC Limited upon completion of her tenure, with effect from April 8, 2026.
Rao is a former Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer (1973–2011) with experience in diplomacy and governance. She served as India’s Foreign Secretary from 2009 to 2011 and held roles as Ambassador to the United States and China, and High Commissioner to Sri Lanka. She was also the first woman to serve as Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Rao is associated with academic institutions including Harvard University and Brown University, and founded the South Asian Symphony Foundation. She holds a postgraduate degree in English Literature and a doctorate from Pondicherry University.
