
Neeraj Gambhir Appointed As Executive Director Of Axis Bank; Arjun Chowdhry Set To Retire
Axis Bank has approved the appointment of Neeraj Gambhir as Executive Director, effective August 4, 2025.
Meanwhile, Arjun Chowdhry, Group Executive for Affluent Banking, Cards, Payments, and Retail Lending, has resigned to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities. He will be relieved of duties on August 31, 2025.
Gambhir currently serves as Group Executive of Treasury, Markets, and Wholesale Banking Products. He has over 30 years of experience in the financial sector. He also serves on several regulatory and institutional Boards. He previously served as Managing Director and Head of Fixed Income at Nomura India and held senior roles at Lehman Brothers and ICICI Bank. He is Vice Chairman of the Fixed Income and Money Market Dealers Association of India and a member of SEBI’s advisory committees. Gambhir is an IIM Lucknow alumnus and holds a degree in computer science engineering.
Chowdhry is the Group Executive for Affluent Banking, Cards, Payments, and Retail Lending at Axis Bank. He joined the bank following its acquisition of Citibank India’s consumer business, a transition he led as Country Consumer Business Head at Citibank India. With 31 years of experience in consumer banking, he has worked across operations, sales, strategy, and business leadership. At Citibank, he played a key role in building the cards, wealth, and salary segments and also established Citi’s first US-facing offshore consumer operation, which he led for over five years. Chowdhry is a graduate of St Stephen’s College, Delhi, and holds a postgraduate degree from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore.
