N. Chandrasekaran Resigns As Tata Chemicals Chairman; Padmanabhan Sankaranarayanan Takes Charge

N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, stepped down from his role as Chairman and Director of Tata Chemicals effective May 29, 2025. He will be succeeded by S. Padmanabhan Sankaranarayanan, an existing Director, effective May 30, 2025.

Chandrasekaran is the Chairman of Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group. He joined the Tata Sons Board in 2016 and became Chairman in 2017. He also chairs the Boards of Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Power, Air India, and TCS. He spent 30 years at TCS and served as its CEO until 2017, leading it to become India’s most valuable company. At Tata Group, he drives the “One Tata” strategy focused on simplification, scale, and synergy and leads expansion into new sectors like semiconductors and battery manufacturing. Chandrasekaran has received the Padma Bhushan (2022), France’s Légion d’Honneur (2023), and an Honorary Knighthood (2025). He holds a bachelor’s in applied sciences and a master’s in computer applications.

Sankaranarayanan brings extensive experience within the Tata Group, having held several key leadership positions. He served as Chairman of the Governing Council of Business Excellence at Tata Sons, where he led initiatives to adopt best practices and operational excellence across the Tata companies. Between 2016 and 2018, he was the Group Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) at Tata Sons, contributing to human capital strategy for the conglomerate. Sankaranarayanan also served as Chairman of Tata Power from 2016 to 2017.
