Meta Settles Trump Lawsuit Over 6th January Suspension For USD 25 Million
Meta has agreed to pay USD 25 million to settle a lawsuit filed by former President Donald Trump after the company suspended his accounts following the January 06, 2021, Capitol attack.
According to sources, USD 22 million will go to a nonprofit linked to Trump’s future presidential library, with the remainder covering legal fees. The settlement follows a meeting between Trump and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in November. Meta’s decision comes amid efforts by technology companies to engage with the new Trump administration. Before Trump’s inauguration, Meta dropped fact-checking on its platform. The settlement follows a similar agreement by ABC News, which paid USD 15 million to Trump’s presidential library to resolve a defamation lawsuit.
