Junyang Lin Steps Down As Head Of Qwen AI Unit At Alibaba

Alibaba Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Eddie Wu confirmed the departure of Junyang Lin, Head of Qwen Artificial Intelligence (AI) division, in a letter to employees on Thursday.

Junyang Lin was a Technology Lead at Alibaba Group, where he works on the Qwen team developing large language and multimodal AI models. He led the development of the Qwen model series and oversaw the open-source release of these models across developer platforms. His work focuses on large-scale pretraining and multimodal AI systems used in search, recommendation, and general AI applications. Before leading Qwen, he contributed to the development of several AI models, including Chinese-CLIP and M6. Earlier in his career, he worked as a senior algorithm engineer at Alibaba on natural language processing and multimodal research. Lin holds a Master’s degree in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics from Peking University.
