John M. Donovan, Robert J. Stevens & Timothy J. Keating Join U.S. Steel Board Following Nippon Deal
U.S. Steel announced the appointment of three American Directors to its Board, more than a month after becoming a subsidiary of Nippon Steel. The Board now comprises seven members, including four U.S. citizens, three of whom are independent.
The new appointees are John M. Donovan, a former member of the U.S. National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee; Robert J. Stevens, former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Lockheed Martin; and Admiral Timothy J. Keating, a retired U.S. Navy admiral and former commander of the United States Pacific Command. The appointments align with a national security agreement signed with the U.S. government, which requires a U.S. Board majority and an American CEO. The deal also grants the U.S. government veto power over certain corporate decisions.
Donovan is the former CEO of AT&T Communications, a subsidiary of AT&T Inc., where he led the communications division from 2017 until his retirement in 2019. He has served on the Boards of Palo Alto Networks, Inc. since 2012 and Lockheed Martin Corporation since 2021. From 2019 to 2023, he was a member of the President’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee. Donovan brings extensive leadership experience in multinational operations, technology, and innovation.
Stevens served as Chairman, President, and CEO of Lockheed Martin Corporation from 2005 to 2012 and as Executive Chairman in 2013. He has been an Independent Director of T. Rowe Price Group since 2019 and served as lead Independent Director of Monsanto Corporation from 2002 to 2018. Stevens is also on the Advisory Board of the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He offers expertise in global business, strategy, and regulatory affairs.
Keating, USN (Ret.), is CEO and Vice Chair of Keating Global, LLC, a veteran-owned security consulting firm. He retired in 2009 after serving as Commander of the United States Pacific Command, overseeing a region with over 3.4 billion people. His distinguished career also includes roles as Commander of the United States Northern Command and the North American Aerospace Defence Command. Keating brings leadership, global engagement experience, and deep national security expertise.
