HUL’s Independent Directors Sanjiv Misra & O.P. Bhatt Have Retired
Dr. Sanjiv Misra and Om Prakash Bhatt have completed their second terms as Independent Directors of Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), with effect from June 29, 2024.
Dr. Sanjiv Misra, aged 73, is a retired officer of the Indian Administrative Services (IAS) and a former member of the 13th Finance Commission. Prior to his term with the Finance Commission, he held several significant positions in both the central and state governments. He served as the Managing Director of the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation and in senior positions within the Government of India, such as in the Cabinet Office, Ministry of Petroleum, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, and Ministry of Finance, ultimately serving as Secretary in the Ministry of Finance until his retirement. Misra has also made contributions to international advisory bodies, including serving on the Advisory Council of the Asian Development Bank Institute in Tokyo and the Committee on Fiscal Consolidation (Kelkar Committee) established by the Finance Minister in August 2012. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi; a master’s degree in economics from the Delhi School of Economics; and a master’s in public administration from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. Additionally, he earned a PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and was named a Lucius N. Littauer Fellow at Harvard University in 1987 for his outstanding academic achievements and leadership qualities.
O. P. Bhatt, 70, is the former Chairman of the State Bank of India (SBI). Over his 37-year career at SBI, he undertook numerous national and international assignments, successfully guiding the bank through challenging periods by leveraging and enhancing its strengths. He was recognised as ‘Banker of the Year’ by Business Standard and received the CNN-IBN Indian of the Year award for business in 2007. He also served as Chairman of the Indian Banks’ Association and played a crucial role in India’s economic diplomacy as a member of the Indo-US, Indo-Russia, and Indo-French CEO’s Forum. He holds a bachelor’s degree in physics and a master’s degree in English literature.
