“His hypocrisy convinces no one,” Elon Musk says of Mark Cuban over DEI
Elon Musk criticised Mark Cuban on Thursday for strongly supporting DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) initiatives in corporate America. Musk accused Cuban of trying to show virtue but called him hypocritical. The disagreement unfolded on the X social media platform after Harvard President Claudine Gay’s resignation.
In response to a question from an X user about discrimination against Asians in college admissions, Cuban gave a vague answer, leading Musk to accuse him of dodging the question.
Cuban had earlier defended DEI, stating that diversity benefits business by considering individuals of various races, ethnicities, orientations, etc., who are often excluded from hiring consideration.
Musk, along with fellow billionaire Bill Ackman, denounced DEI online, with Musk calling it “just another word for racism” and stating it is immoral and illegal due to its discriminatory nature.
The online dispute also involved Ackman, who argued that Harvard’s adoption of DEI was the root cause of antisemitism on campus. Ackman criticised Harvard administrators, including Claudine Gay, for their response to antisemitic incidents, ultimately demanding Gay’s removal.
Recently, Gay announced her resignation after it was revealed that she had plagiarised in numerous academic works.
