Government Reports 17,654 Company Closures, 1.38 Lakh New Registrations In FY25

As many as 17,654 companies have been closed and 138,027 registered in the current financial year till January 26, 2025, according to government data.

Minister of State for Corporate Affairs Harsh Malhotra shared the data in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on February 04. The closures include companies that have been amalgamated, converted into LLPs, liquidated, dissolved, or struck off. In 2023-24 and 2022-23, the count stood at 22,044 and 84,801, respectively. The Companies Act governs company registration in India, and the Corporate Affairs Ministry also oversees the LLP Act.

The minister highlighted various government initiatives for ease of doing business, including the decriminalisation of 63 offences under the Companies and LLP Acts.
