Google Ends Diversity-Based Hiring Targets
Google is discontinuing its diversity-based hiring goals and reviewing some of its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, aligning with other U.S. companies scaling back similar programs.
In an email to staff, Alphabet’s Chief People Officer Fiona Cicconi stated that the company would no longer have aspirational hiring goals. Google had aimed to increase leadership representation from under-represented groups by 30% by 2025. Alphabet’s latest U.S. SEC filing omitted a previous commitment to DEI. The Alphabet Workers Union criticised the move, linking it to broader industry trends. Google, a federal contractor, is also assessing policy changes related to DEI compliance.
Meta and Amazon have similarly scaled back DEI efforts following legal and political challenges.
