Former Harvard Endowment Chief Stephen Blyth Joins Bank Of England Financial Policy Committee

Stephen Blyth, a mathematician and former Harvard University endowment fund manager, has been appointed to a part-time role on the Bank of England’s (BoE’s) Financial Policy Committee (FPC).

Blyth succeeds Colette Bowe, and the government also reappointed former US Federal Reserve official Randall Kroszner to a second three-year FPC term.

The committee, chaired by BoE Governor Andrew Bailey, monitors risks to the UK financial system and sets rules on bank capital levels and mortgage lending. Blyth, who has served as principal of Oxford’s Lady Margaret Hall since 2022, began his career as a maths lecturer and later held senior roles at Morgan Stanley and Deutsche Bank.
