Ex-CSRC Chief Yi Huiman Under Probe Amid Anti-Graft Campaign
Yi Huiman, who led the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) from January 2019 to February 2024, is being investigated by the Communist Party’s disciplinary unit for breaches of discipline. The details of the probe were not disclosed.
Yi becomes the second top regulator of China’s USD 12 trillion capital market to face an investigation in the past decade, following the removals of Liu Shiyu in 2019 and Xiao Gang in 2016. Yi’s tenure coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, zero-COVID policies, and market volatility, including a drop in the A-share index in 2024. Before the CSRC, Yi served as chairman of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China. During his regulatory tenure, he oversaw IPO reforms and the establishment of the Star Market in Shanghai. Yi had continued in advisory roles since leaving the regulator post.
