
Dr. Vinayak Prasad Steps Down As Director Of FDA
Dr. Vinayak (Vinay) Prasad has resigned from his role as Director of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research after three months in the position.
Dr. Prasad served as the FDA’s Chief Medical and Scientific Officer and Director of the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER). At the FDA, he advised leadership on cross-center medical and scientific issues and led regulatory oversight of biological products. As a haematologist-oncologist, he previously taught at UCSF and Oregon Health & Science University and completed fellowships at the National Cancer Institute and NIH. He has published over 500 academic articles and authored two books on medical evidence and policy. Dr. Prasad earned his M.D. from the University of Chicago, an M.P.H. from Johns Hopkins, and undergraduate degrees in physiology and philosophy from Michigan State University.
