Dr Ram Charan Honoured as Global Board Legend at the Board Stewardship Global Summit 2025
The Board Stewardship Global Corporate Governance Summit 2025, held at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), concluded after two days of deliberations and discussions. Among its key moments was the honouring of Dr. Ram Charan as a Global Board Legend. This recognition was introduced for the first time in India by Board Stewardship, making Dr. Ram Charan the inaugural recipient of this prestigious award in presence of 300 Board leaders, Independent Directors, regulators and governance experts, and the recognition presented to Dr Charan was its most notable highlight.
Dr Charan was honoured for his decades of contribution to boardroom practice in India and around the world. Over his long career, he has advised chairs, board members, CEOs and governance professionals across sectors and geographies and has played an important role in shaping how Boards operate, making decisions and navigating change. The award acknowledged his consistent work in supporting boards as they align governance, strategy and execution.
In his acceptance remarks, Dr Charan said, “I had the privilege of being honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award in Board Stewardship and recognised as a ‘Global Board Legend’ at the Board Stewardship’s Global Corporate Governance Summit 2025, held at the Bombay Stock Exchange. I accept this recognition with humility. It truly belongs to the many chairs, board members, CEOs and governance professionals I have worked with across the world over the last five decades. They are the ones doing the hard work of aligning governance, strategy and execution to create enduring institutions.”
Speaking about the responsibilities of modern Boards, he said, “Strong Boards are not about compliance alone. They are about courage, clarity and stewardship — asking the right questionsand taking difficult decisions in the long-term interest of shareholders, employees, customers and society.”
Reaffirming his ongoing commitment, Dr Charan said, “My commitment remains the same: to help Boards become sharper in judgement, faster in execution and stronger in character.” He concluded by thanking Board Stewardship and the jury for the honour.

Known for his clear, practical approach to strategy, governance and leadership, he has advised organisations such as GE, Bank of America, Toyota and Tata Group.
