Dr. Pawan Goenka Reappointed; Rama Bijapurkar To Retire As Independent Director Of Sun Pharma
Dr. Pawan Goenka has been reappointed as Non-Executive Independent Director of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited, effective May 21, 2026, subject to approval of the shareholders. While Rama Bijapurkar will retire upon completion of her term, effective May 20, 2026.
Dr. Goenka worked at General Motors R&D in the US before joining Mahindra & Mahindra in 1993, where he led product development, including the Scorpio SUV, and later retired as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director (CEO & MD) in April 2021. He was appointed Chairperson of IN-SPACe in February 2022 and has overseen the implementation of India’s space reforms and policy framework. He received the Padma Shri in 2025 and currently chairs the Board of Governors of IIT Madras. Dr. Goenka is an engineer and industry leader with experience across automotive and space sectors. He holds a B.Tech in mechanical engineering from IIT Kanpur, a Ph.D. from Cornell University, and is an alumnus of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
Bijapurkar is a business strategy expert focused on markets and India’s consumer economy. She runs an independent management consulting practice and works across sectors, with an emphasis on integrating market insight into business strategy. She is a Professor of Management Practice at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and a co-founder of People Research on India’s Consumer Economy, a not-for-profit think tank. Bijapurkar has served as an independent director on the boards of several Indian companies and public institutions. She is a regular commentator on business and policy issues and the author of books on Consumer India, including We Are Like That Only, A Never-Before World, and Customer in the Boardroom. She holds a BSc in Physics from Delhi University and a postgraduate diploma in management from IIM Ahmedabad.
