
Dr. Bhaskar Chatterjee Concludes His Tenure As Independent Director Of Jindal Steel
Dr. Bhaskar Chatterjee retires as Independent Director of Jindal Steel Limited (formerly known as Jindal Steel & Power Limited), with effect from July 28, 2025, upon completion of his term.
Dr. Chatterjee is a former IAS officer from the 1975 batch with degrees in history, M.Phil, MBA, Ph.D., and LLB. He served in key roles across sectors like steel, mining, coal, and education. As Principal Secretary of Steel and Mines, Odisha, he oversaw mining operations and industrial linkages. He was also Secretary of the Department of Public Enterprises, where he led reforms in Corporate Governance and sustainable development. As DG & CEO of the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs, he established the National Foundation for Corporate Governance. Dr. Chatterjee is widely known as the father of CSR in India, having draughted the 2010 CSR guidelines and contributed to Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013. He also advised the Planning Commission on economic policy.
