DGCA Orders Boeing, Air India For Report On 787 Emergency Power System

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has instructed Air India to inspect the Ram Air Turbine (RAT) emergency power system on certain Boeing 787 Dreamliners after it unexpectedly deployed during a flight on October 4, 2025, from Amritsar to Birmingham.

The DGCA has also asked Boeing to submit a comprehensive report on preventive measures to avoid uncommanded RAT deployment and provide details of similar incidents globally. The flight landed safely, and the aircraft has returned to service. The inspection is focused on aircraft where the power distribution system was recently replaced. The move comes after the RAT deployment occurred shortly before the June 12, 2025, Air India 787 crashes. The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIPs) has requested the grounding of all Air India 787s for electrical system checks.
