Co-Founder Robert Langer To Leave Moderna Vaccines Board

Robert Langer, a co-founder and pivotal figure in Moderna’s scientific achievements, will step down from the company’s Board on August 5, Moderna announced on Tuesday.

Langer was instrumental in developing Moderna’s messenger RNA COVID-19 vaccine, the company’s sole commercial product. Moderna indicated that its future recruitment will prioritise candidates with expertise in science and innovation. Langer is one of nine Institute Professors—the highest accolade at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He has served as chairman of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is renowned as the most cited academic in history. Langer leads the Langer Laboratory, which focuses on drug delivery systems and mechanisms involving genetically engineered proteins, DNA, and RNA.

Additionally, Moderna disclosed that Stephen Berenson, a Board member since 2017, will also be stepping down. He will be succeeded by David Rubenstein, co-founder and co-chairman of the Carlyle Group.
