Chinese Authorities Call On Nestle To Act Faster On Formula Recall
China’s State Administration for Market Regulation has urged Nestle SA to act quickly in recalling baby formula products in the country. The authorities emphasized that the company has a corporate responsibility to protect consumer rights in China, the world’s largest baby formula market.
Nestle on Wednesday expanded a voluntary recall of certain infant nutrition products, including the BEBA and Alfamino brands, from Europe to Asia and the Americas. The recall was prompted after cereulide, a toxin that can cause foodborne illness including vomiting, was detected in an ingredient supplied by one of its oil providers. The company stated on its website that no illnesses have been reported in connection with the affected batches. The recall initially started in Europe earlier this week and now covers additional markets to prevent potential health risks. Chinese authorities are monitoring the situation and expect Nestle to complete the recall efficiently and provide updates to consumers.
