ChatGPT Board Fires OpenAI CEO Sam Altman
OpenAI’s founder and CEO, Sam Altman, has been asked to step down following a board review, as the company states he was not consistently transparent in his communications. The board has lost confidence in his leadership. Mira Murati, OpenAI’s Chief Technology Officer, will serve as interim CEO while the company searches for a permanent successor.
Greg Brokman, Co-founder and President, will step down as Chairman of the board but will remain in his role, reporting to the CEO. The board includes OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, Independent Directors, Quora CEO Adam D’Angelo, technology entrepreneur Tasha McCauley, and Helen Toner from the Georgetown Center for Security and Emerging Technology.
This development follows Elon Musk, an early supporter of OpenAI, launching his own GenAI bot, Grok. Musk and Altman, once co-chairs, have had public exchanges on Twitter regarding their respective platforms. Musk was associated with OpenAI until 2018, when he left due to a conflict of interest with Tesla.
