Centre Withdraws Pankaj Dwivedi’s Appointment As Union Bank Executive Director

The central government has withdrawn the appointment of Pankaj Dwivedi as Executive Director of Union Bank of India, the bank said in a stock exchange filing on Monday. No reason was cited.

Dwivedi, who previously served as General Manager at Punjab & Sind Bank, was appointed to the Union Bank Board in March 2023 for a three-year term. His appointment had faced legal scrutiny after public interest litigation (PIL) was filed in the Delhi High Court, which raised questions about a pending sexual harassment chargesheet against him. Two public sector bank officials said Dwivedi is likely to return to Punjab & Sind Bank as General Manager. The cancellation comes amid ongoing concerns around transparency in senior-level appointments at public sector banks.
