CCI Probes IndiGo Over Flight Cancellations & Market Dominance

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has initiated a review of IndiGo after the airline cancelled nearly 5,000 flights earlier this month, affecting thousands of passengers.

CCI will examine if IndiGo, which holds over 60% of the domestic market and is the largest airline in international traffic to and from India, violated antitrust laws or abused its dominant position. The probe follows complaints that the airline cancelled flights and raised fares, prompting the government to cap domestic airfares at Rs 18,000. IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers stated the airline has stabilised operations and currently runs over 2,200 flights, including international services, and is focusing on resilience, root cause analysis, and rebuilding. The CCI assessment could lead to fines or other regulatory remedies if abuse of dominance is established.
