Canada’s Competition Bureau Sues Google Over Alleged Ad Tech Abuse
Canada’s Competition Bureau has sued Google, claiming it abused its dominant position in online advertising by linking two ad tech tools to distort auctions in favour of its products.
The Bureau has requested the Competition Tribunal to mandate the sale of two Google ad tech tools and impose a fine of up to 3% of the company’s global revenue. Google has 45 days to respond and denies the allegations, stating that its tools provide businesses with competitive options. The lawsuit highlights concerns over Google’s near-total control of Canada’s ad tech market, which the watchdog claims is the result of deliberate actions. The case aligns with similar legal challenges Google faces internationally.
