BPL’s Founder, TPG Nambiar, Passes Away At 94
TPG Nambiar, the founder of BPL Group, died in Bengaluru at the age of 94. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Nambiar’s legacy, describing him as a visionary who championed India’s economic success.
Since starting BPL in 1963, he has expanded its offerings from defence equipment to consumer electronics, making the company a trusted household name by the 1990s. Notably, BPL’s colour televisions gained popularity after the 1982 Asiad. Despite industry constraints, Nambiar’s efforts remain relevant. His family includes son Ajit Nambiar and son-in-law Rajeev Chandrasekhar, former union minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship of India.
