Star Health’s Independent Director Berjis Desai Steps Down

Berjis Minoo Desai, Independent Director, has tendered his resignation from the Board of Star Health and Allied Insurance Company Limited. The resignation took effect on April 23, 2024.

Desai has been the Chairman and Director of two closely held public limited companies over the last several years. These companies are launching an IPO in the next couple of months, which will result in the number of directorships in listed companies exceeding the statutorily prescribed maximum of seven. In addition, Desai explained that he is finding it increasingly difficult to visit Chennai to attend the meetings.

Berjis Desai is a renowned professional lawyer with approximately 4 decades of experience specialising in both transactional and dispute resolution laws. Desai has held significant roles, including Managing Partner and Senior Partner, at J. Sagar Associates. Currently, he operates as an independent legal consultant, focusing on private client services such as succession and estate planning for affluent individuals and promoter families, utilising tools like wills, trusts, and family arrangements. Additionally, he facilitates the resolution of family, testamentary, and business disputes through mediation and provides advisory services in insolvency and asset reconstruction. Berjis Desai is also an accomplished author, penning works like “OH! THOSE PARSIS, A to Z of the Parsi way of life” and “The Bawaji Chronicles of a Vanishing Community.” He holds a Master of Law degree from the University of Cambridge, UK.
