Ben Wyatt Promoted To Senior Independent Director At Rio Tinto
Ben Wyatt, who has served as a Non-Executive Director at Rio Tinto since 2021, has been elevated to the role of Senior Independent Director. The promotion is part of a Board reduction from 14 to 10 Directors and focuses on Board engagement in Australia, complementing the UK-based Senior Independent Director, Sharon Thorne.
The Board reduction follows the resignation of Directors Simon Henry, Martina Merz, Sam Laidlaw, and Kaisa Hietala.
Wyatt retired from politics in 2021 after a 15-year career, including serving as the first Aboriginal State or Federal treasurer. He served as an officer in the Australian Army Reserves and worked as a barrister and solicitor. He also holds multiple Board positions, including at Telethon Kids Institute, West Coast Eagles, Woodside Energy, Crown Perth, and UWA Business School. His experience adds depth and insight to the governance and strategic oversight of organisations he serves.
